Admissions/Discharge Process

Whenever possible, admission to the program is accomplished by committee review, which includes the regional and program managers and other key staff members.  At the time of admissions, the committee projects discharge goals and make recommendations for community coordination experience.

It is anticipated that the residents referred have had major difficulties with appropriate conduct.  It is also assumed that, despite these problems they have recently maintained reasonable control over their day-to-day behavior.  The resident must be capable of functioning within the context of a supportive group setting with out aggressive behaviors, which leads to compromising the safety of other residents, staff members, or those in the local community.  In all cases where a specific resident referral is deemed by the admissions committee to be inappropriate for the group home program, the Barraud House program program staff will work closely with the referral agencies to determine reasonable alternatives.

The program is prepared to meet the needs of male adolescents from diverse backgrounds.  The following criteria are presented as guidelines for staff of the admissions committee as they make their decisions.  Each case, however, is reviewed individually with the decision to admit based upon the ability of the program to meet specialized needs of the individual.

Our program best serves referrals that meet the following criteria:

  1. 12-18 years of age at time of admission
  2. determined to have a Full Scale IQ of  70 or higher
  3. demonstrates difficulties and impairment in relationships, conduct and stability of affect
  4. requires the provision of a moderate intensity of intervention and a structured, but stimulating environment
  5. successful completion of a recognized sex offender program as evidenced by documentation and/or evaluation by Paramount Youth Services.

In order to ensure program effectiveness for others, The Paramount Youth Services program excludes referrals that are:

  1. determined to have a Full Scale IQ less than 70
  2. suicidal and/or homicidal; attempts within the last 30 days
  3. actively experiencing visual and auditory hallucinations, or is so disoriented in thought processes that they present a safety hazard to self or others
  4. sex offender without significant therapeutic treatment, or unsuccessful completion, in a recognized sex offender program

The admission committee can make exceptions to these criteria on an individual basis.  Each resident is expected to be able to participate in the program without repeated demonstrations of overt aggressive, self-destructive, or sexually problematic behaviors.  It should be noted that residents who consistently exhibit behaviors (whether in our program or as referral) that are significant threats to the safety and welfare of others (i.e. physical assault, sexual molestation, rape, etc.) are not considered appropriate for referral to The Barraud House program.
